Did you know that Ben Franklin was the first ever Postmaster General?
In July of 1775 he was appointed the first-ever Postmaster General. He was a newspaperman, which made him familiar with the workings of a post office. Before this, he also worked for the British as a joint postmaster and was fired for showing sympathy with the disgruntled colonists. He was also able to get his own Pennsylvania Gazette distributed while being a joint postmaster since they controlled the flow of mail. And turned it into one of the colonies’ most successful publications.
