This beautifully carved Maori trophy depicts a stylised poupou, or wall panel. These wall panels were located on the front of a wharenui (meeting house), under its verandah. They are also seen inside the wharenui, lining the side walls and supporting the rafters, often alternating with tukutuku panels.
Poupou represent ancestors, so this poupou can represent the ancestors of the person you give it to, or your own ancestors if you buy it for yourself. Lovely to recognise that connection. It is also simply a great piece of Maori carving.
The total height of the poupou and stand is approximately 55.5cm (21 3/4"), so it is a really impressively sized trophy to give.
The large base can be engraved.
Either a gold plaque can be added to the front, or it can be paua engraved.
Once you have selected the engraved option, a box will open up for you to enter your engraving details in. You can have up to 8 words on a gold plaque, or up to 8 CHARACTERS paua engraved.
Engraving takes 3-4 days. Please note that engraved items cannot be returned, aside from the unlikely event of the engraving being done wrong.
